Capitol Water gets 1.45 percent increase to account for increased power costs

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has approved a 1.45 percent increase effective July 1 for the approximate 2,700 Boise customers of Capitol Water Corporation to account for increased electrical costs. However, the increase is subject to refund after a 21-day customer comment period.

Capitol Water serves about 2,300 residential and 400 commercial and industrial customers in an area bounded roughly by Northview Street north to Ustick Road and from North Maple Grove east to Curtis Road.

Capital Water contends it has incurred additional electricity costs of $9,967 per year due to the recently approved annual Power Cost Adjustment for Idaho Power Company, that, with other smaller adjustments included, amounted to an overall increase in electric rates to the water company of 13 percent.

The commission will take comments from customers regarding the increase through July 14. The commission may schedule a hearing on the matter if customer comments indicate a need for a hearing.

Comments are accepted via e-mail by accessing the commission’s homepage at www.puc.idaho.gov and clicking on "Comments & Questions." Fill in the case number (CAP-W-09-01) and enter your comments. Comments can also be mailed to P.O. Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0074 or faxed to (208) 334-3762.
